What is Coronavirus?

Ans- Coronavirus is an infectious disease caused by a newly discovered virus. The said virus tends to causes an infection in your nose, sinuses, or upper throat. Most coronaviruses aren't dangerous, however in older population and prevalence of comorbidities in people may result in severe illness. It is also called as Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) and the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19). 


What does word "Corona" means? 

Ans- Corona (in Latin) mean Crown. When observed under an electron microscope the virus seems like spiked rings. These spikes form a crown like structure around the viral body.

Which family of virus does Coronavirus belogs to?

Ans- Coronaviruses belong to a family known as "Coronaviridae". Coronaviridae is a family of single-stranded, positive RNA viruses. Coronaviruses and Toroviruses are the members of this family.  Both are capable of causing a mild respiratory and enteric infections in humans and other vertebrate animals.  Coronaviruses are also known to cause severe infections such as SARS (severe acute respiratory syndrome).


How does COVID-19 spread?

Ans- Coronavirus spreads as a result of human to human transmission. The disease spreads primarily through small droplets from the nose or mouth of an infected person , probably when he coughs, sneezes, or speaks. In case someone else inhales these droplets, might get infected. Since, these droplets are relatively heavy they do not travel far and quickly sink to the ground.Therefore, throughout the world, social distancing is advised and people are being asked to maintain a distance of about 6 feet, or 2 meters from each other. Reason for fast spread of this virus is that the droplets can land on objects and surfaces around the person such as tables, doorknobs, slabs, keyboards etc and people can become infected by touching these objects or surfaces, then further end up touching their eyes, nose or mouth, resulting in chances of virus entering their body.
